rms sports consultants produced training materials and case studies for a new Open College Network accredited e-learning course - The Certificate in Sports Funding on behalf of Fundraising Skills UK Ltd, an e-learning organisation specialising in fundraising training. It was launched by rms sports consultants and Fundraising Skills UK Ltd in May 2009 and is proving to be very popular. The course is designed to help sport clubs and sports development professionals and students to have a greater understanding of writing a high quality grant application to secure funding for sport. The certificate comprises of six modules which are easily completed over a six week period and cover many subjects including project planning, club development and evidencing need. Louise Germaney, Course Director said 'the quality of the training materials is a real testament to the professionalism and eye for detail offered by rms sports consultants'.

Notts County Football In the Community

rms has continued to support Notts County Football In the Community with further fundraising and has just helped them to secure a further £603,000 to expand the Active Schools project in Nottingham City schools. Steve Hill, Community Director is absolutely delighted and said 'the project will help to engage lots more children from the inner city areas of Nottingham into sport and physical activity using football and indoor rowing'. He added 'we would not have secured this level of funding for this project without rms sports consultants'.

Derby Ducks Hockey Group

rms sports consultants has helped newly formed hockey group the Derby Ducks to secure £1,560 towards goalkeeping equipment and coaching support over a 12-month period. Caroline Mason, Team Manager said 'we can now play hockey safely with our new goalkeeping equipment and the coaching will also help us to improve our game and learn the rules whilst encouraging more local women back to recreational sport'. She added 'rms offered the Derby Ducks - a small recreational hockey group a professional and dedicated service and were a pleasure to do business with'.

Newcastle (Staffs) Rugby Union Football Club

rms sports consultants have recently secured £154,000 on behalf of Newcastle (Staffs) Rugby Union Football Club towards the refurbishment of the Club's changing rooms. It involved making bids to various funders over a 12 month period and the new changing rooms will be ready for this coming rugby season.

Tony Marsh, Club President stated 'there is no doubt that without your support and knowledge of the procedures in securing funding it is most likely that this project would not have taken place.' He added 'I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for assisting the club to achieve its major objective of refurbishment of the changing rooms.'

Notts County Football In the Community

rms sports consultants has recently secured £281,000 from various sources on behalf of Notts County Football In the Community which will be used to deliver a project which will aim to engage lots of children from the inner city areas of Nottingham into regular sport and physical activity using football and indoor rowing.

Steve Hill, Community Director said 'I have no doubt that without the knowledge, expertise and professionalism of rms Sports this project would not be in a position to progress into 3 years of valuable work combating child obesity'. He added 'Notts County FITC is involved in lots of different projects and if any projects arise in the future I will have no hesitation but to contact rms sports consultants'.

RFUW Midlands Conference

rms sports consultants recently delivered the grants and funding workshop at the RFUW Midlands Conference held at Worcester Rugby Club in June. The Clubs in attendance found the workshop very interesting with some useful information on how to prepare a successful funding application.

'It really helped our fledgling clubs (and some of our more experienced ones) in having such a specific and yet simple workshop. All went away with a better understanding and some since have been in touch to say it has helped with their funding applications.'

Sport England

rms was recently commissioned by Sport England West Midlands to carry out a self audit of grant management files to ensure that they complied with national Sport England standards. One hundred and fifty eight files from current and legacy programmes were assessed against a template through a self audit system to ensure that all records and documents were in place electronically and manually. This involved on a file by file basis and on the electronic grants management system a systematic search and recording of key items of paperwork, documents, records and returns.

Workshops Available

rms has recently developed two practical workshops designed specifically for sports clubs and community groups wishing to develop sports related community projects.

The first workshop is on sports funding and includes an overview of current grant aid opportunities and practical hints and tips on how to structure a good application.

The second workshop focuses on sports development planning and engaging all club members in developing a club development plan.

These workshops would be of particular interest to organisations wanting to support sports clubs and community groups, such as regional and county sports organisations like Governing Bodies of Sport and County Sport Partnerships.
